General information

Fun and informative activity sessions for your key stage 2 group. With a broad range of topics and local history studies, our activities are designed to suit all pupil and curriculum requirements.

Select one of our established packages or speak to us about creating a bespoke learning day. Costs start from £6 per pupil for day workshops.

Standard workshops run from 10am-2pm. If you require a shorter visit please contact us to discuss options.

Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age

Stone Age

Kick off your Stone Age to Iron Age journey by discovering what life was like in Stone Age Norfolk. Get hands on with real Stone Age artefacts, find out about different medicines, and experiment with ancient crafts to take home.

Seahenge and the Bronze Age

Investigate our unique Bronze Age wooden monument to find out more about Bronze Age Norfolk. Pupils will handle real prehistoric tools, use drama to explore the controversy surrounding the excavation of the circle, and find out about the science required to preserve Seahenge for future generations.

Stone Age to Iron Age

A comprehensive overview of three key eras of pre-history. Pupils will handle real prehistoric tools to explore the changes in materials from Stone to Bronze, then Iron. Plus, learn what it takes to hunt a mammoth and try your hand at cave art.

The struggle for the Kingdom of England

Romans and Iceni

Find out about the Roman invasion from both sides! Meet a Roman solider and an Iceni warrior - whose side will you take? Meet costumed characters, handle real artefacts.

Anglo-Saxons and Vikings

Find out about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in West Norfolk. Handle real artefacts from the past, find out what people liked to eat, and try your hand at traditional weaving.

Medieval Lynn

Handle some real medieval artefacts recovered from the soil of King's Lynn, try making some medieval food, and create a pilgrim badge inspired by our collection.

Tudor Times

Hop back in time to Tudor King's Lynn to discover the manners required to succeed in royal court, learn to lay a table for a feast with the house maid, and experience writing with quills and ink.

English Civil War

It's 1643, Cromwell's troops are at the gate and a cannonball shot from the riverbank at West Lynn crashes into the west window of St Margaret's Church. Discover the Siege of King's Lynn by meeting costumed soldiers, exploring precious food resources and making a military-themed craft. Whose side will you take?

Maritime Life

Learn about King's Lynn seagoing past with object handling, crafts, and food tasting. Choose from a variety of options, including

  • Working on a whaling ship
  • Charting the coast of North America with Captain Vancouver
  • Life in Nelson's Navy
  • The Hanseatic League of Medieval Europe

Frederick Savage

Discover the amazing life of Frederick Savage - son of a convict who became mayor of King's Lynn and the owner of a world-famous fairground ride company. Explore Savage's rags-to-riches story, the science behind how his steam engines worked, and try your hand at traditional fairground games.

Victorian Mystery

Mr Williams' precious silver spoon is missing. Sooty Grimes, the chimney sweep falls under suspicion, but did he really take it? Pupils will meet costumed characters, handle real artefacts, find out about crime and punishment, and participate in a mock trial at the courtroom in King's Lynn Town Hall to determine the truth.

Victorian Life

Find out what life was like in King's Lynn in the Victorian era. Handle real Victorian objects, help the maid with her laundry, and play some Victorian games.

Floods and Flooding

History and geography collide in 1953 as the river bursts its banks and King's Lynn becomes flooded - could this happen again? Pupils will find out about the 1953 flood through real artefacts, calculate the social and financial cost of flood damage and use maps to identify key areas of flood risk. These activities involves accurate measuring, recording data and calculating averages, including looking at flood markers and defences along the quayside and assessing their effectiveness.

Guy Fawkes

Learn all about the Gunpowder Plot as you try your hand at Stuart-era writing, make some traditional food, and discover the punishments that awaited the plotters.

Great Fire of London

Uncover the lives of people who lived through the Great Fire of London, as you investigate how materials burn, meet a soldier who worked through the blaze and learn about the writings of Samuel Pepys, whose diary tracked the events of September 1666.

First World War

Meet costumed characters to find out what life was like in King's Lynn during the First World War. Handle real artefacts from the era, find out about living on the ration and learn about the horrors of the zeppelin raids.

Second World War

Meet costumed characters to find out what life was like on the King's Lynn Home Front during the Second World War. Handle real artefacts from the era, learn to make wartime truffles and plan the civil defence of Lynn in case of invasion.

Crime and Punishment

Interview a prisoner in his gaol cell, discover different forms of punishment, and learn about how to ward off witches with the Witchfinder General.

Transport Through Time

A fun and informative journey through the development of different forms of transport through time - by sea, rail, air and even animal! Discover the science behind steam power, the logistics of maritime travel, and the revolution brought about by the railways.

Awe-ful Archaeology 

A new historic burial site has been found! Investigate the individual and find out about their life by exploring the metalwork and pottery in their grave, and their stomach contents. Which time period did they live in? What did they do during their life? And, most importantly, what lead to their death?

LGBTQ+ Workshops 

Discover the LGBTQ+ linked stories and objects in the Lynn Museum collection and learn about significant symbols to the LGBTQ+ community.

The Achievements of Early Civilisations

Ancient Egyptians

Explore one of the most popular ancient civilisations as you handle real Egyptian artifacts, find out about the process of mummification, and make your own craft to take home.

Maya Civilisation

Discover the ancient civilisation of the Maya. Compare their farming techniques to the modern world, try Maya games, and explore the history of everyone's favourite food - chocolate.

Baghdad and Early Islamic Civilisation

What similarities and differences are there between Ancient Baghdad and the Fens? Find out with this fascinating case study, looking at the importance of rivers, farming techniques and tile art.
